What happens if I damage a jeep?
While the Jeep is rented to you, it is basically your vehicle. You will be responsible for any damage that is done to the vehicle while in your possession. Damage, includes but is not limited to, the following:
Tires: punctures, rips and anything greater than a pin hole. (Tip: Speed over terrain and not watching the sidewalls for sharp rocks is typically the biggest issue.) We do offer a tire and glass coverage for $25.00 per day that will cover the repair/replacement of 1 tire, and any glass damage.
Wheels: Any damage done to the finish on the wheel or dents. (Tip: Grinding wheel metal against the rocks and taking on obstacles too fast is the biggest issue.)
Bumpers: Any scratches or dents in the bumper. (Tip: If you are unsure you cannot clear trees and rocks then stop, get out and assess the width of the area you are trying to travel through.)
Paint: Any and all damage to paint will be your responsibility. This includes “Arizona Pin Stripe.” Arizona Pin Stripe are small scratches along the side, top and back of vehicle caused by branches or bushes protruding out from the sides of the trail. (Tip: stay in the middle of the trail even if it means traveling over a larger rock in order to avoid damage to the paint.)
Windshield/Glass: Any chips or cracks in the windshield and/or side glass will be your responsibility. (Tip: Following too closely to vehicles in front of you (especially on Forest Roads) is the #1 cause of cracked/chipped windshields)
Undercarriage: Differential, steering assembly, shocks, stabilizers and all other parts. (Tip: Know the clearance of the vehicle. If you are unsure, place the vehicle in “park” and walk over to the object to assess the object and the clearance of the Jeep.
Hood/Bumpers: At no time should any person(s) sit or stand of the hood or bumpers.
Interior: Any damage to interior will be your responsibility. We will assess a $500 charge for any evidence of smoking in the vehicle. Pets will be allowed for an additional $100. We must be notified in advance if you plan to bring your pet so that we have install proper canvas guards on the seats.
All other damages: any damage to the Jeeps beyond the list above will be your responsibilityWhile damage to Jeeps is rare, it does happen. The #1 cause of damage is “speed.” You never “ram into” an object (rock) or ravine. Slowly move the vehicle up to the object and allow it to touch the object then provide slow, steady speed to power up and over the object. Additionally, when you are coming down a steep incline, move at a slow, controlled speed… you will need to ride the brake to insure a slow, steady speed.
Note: A full assessment (video) will be performed upon picking up your Jeep. An additional full assessment (video) will be performed when you return the Jeep. Your ticket will not be closed until staff has completed and analysis of both videos. By signing and agreeing to the Hike House Jeeps Contract, you are authorizing Hike House Jeeps to charge your credit card for all damages.
